Now that the fireplace was out I needed to think what we were going to do with the kitchen. Take all the walls down? Leave a partial wall? I knew I wanted an Island. Still today I think what I could have done differently. I'm happy with our choices.
The day after the fireplace was out I started demo on the wall. While my son was sleeping and husband was at work, I went for it. I love demo!
My husband came home to all the drywall gone. Good thing he trusts me :)
My husband is great at demo. He took up all the hardwood floors. I wasn't sure at first what flooring I was going to do. There were two different types of hardwood flooring. Nail down in the kitchen and prefinished in the front family room. I didn't really want to try to match one or the other so we took it out.
Looking back at these photos I laugh and think to myself. Man, was I crazy!? Thankfully we remodeled during the summer and spent a lot of our time outside and used the BBQ.
Next, we started taking out the wall. We weren't 100% sure of where we were going to need a post. I was thinking we would need a post where the big closet was in the kitchen.
I decided to open up the entry ways.
Our big huge dumpster being delivered
The more my contractors looked at the truss system when we opened up the ceiling, they were convinced we didn't need a post. The exterior was are the supporting walls for the roof. Not having a post was so aweseome!
